South Pole is seeking a Mid-level Manager to lead compliance market activities for jurisdictional REDD+ programs, focusing on carbon asset development, feasibility studies, and technical advisory across global markets.

The Compliance Market division at South Pole manages the sourcing and development of carbon projects, ultimately delivering certified credits to the marketplace. This role provides essential technical expertise for jurisdictional carbon asset development and feasibility assessments, ensuring the company's J-REDD+ initiatives meet rigorous market standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical assessments, policy analysis, and standard tracking for jurisdictional REDD+ feasibility, credit monetization, and advisory work under frameworks like ART TREES, Verra, and Equitable Earth.
  • Oversee advisory assignments and feasibility studies from the initial screening and proposal stages through full project lifecycle management, including planning, execution, and closure.
  • Evaluate jurisdictional REDD+ methodology eligibility for various buyers and use cases, with a primary focus on compliance market opportunities.
  • Monitor emerging trends and developments in carbon markets and jurisdictional REDD+, gathering market intelligence to identify key competitors and industry shifts.
  • Develop and maintain internal knowledge resources and technical tools to support team operations.
  • Draft high-quality reports, policy briefs, and presentations for internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Facilitate information sharing across the organization and coordinate with Projects, Risk, and Portfolio teams on J-REDD+ technical and methodological issues.
  • Collaborate with GIS and in-country program teams to evaluate remote sensing data, such as satellite imagery and LiDAR, for forest carbon projects.
  • Assist the digital innovation team in integrating J-REDD+ methodologies into digital measurement, reporting, and verification (dMRV) systems.
  • Partner with the Finance Deal Structuring team to develop long-term financial models and assess commercial implementation models for specific projects or countries.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Forestry, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology, Ecology, Climate Policy, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in nature-based solutions (NbS), jurisdictional REDD+, REDD+ projects, climate policy, carbon markets, or nature conservation, preferably with project experience in Latin America, Asia, or Africa.
  • Solid understanding of the principles underlying nature-based solutions for certified carbon credit generation.
  • Familiarity with jurisdictional REDD+ carbon standards' methodologies (e.g., ART TREES, Verra FCPF), tools, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Remote Sensing and GIS tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) and geospatial data analysis for forestry and land use, including knowledge of FRELs and MRV.
  • Strong analytical capabilities and experience in data analysis and policy evaluation.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex topics to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-time-zone team environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite applications.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced international environment.
