MaP Executive Director

ETH Zurich seeks a Senior MaP Executive Director to lead the executive office and manage the MaP initiative in collaboration with over 80 research groups. The role involves overseeing strategy, human resources, finances, and governance, with a focus on community building and program development.

The MaP Executive Director is responsible for managing and advancing the MaP initiative in partnership with the Steering Committee and a network of more than 80 affiliated research groups. This role leads the executive office, oversees core management functions, and fosters collaboration across diverse research themes and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Manage and develop the MaP initiative in close coordination with the Steering Committee and a community of over 80 research groups.
• Lead the executive office, ensuring smooth operations and daily management.
• Oversee key management areas including strategy, human resources, finances, and governance.
• Promote community engagement and coordinate multi-stakeholder collaboration across various research themes.
• Serve as a primary liaison between research groups and research institutions.
• Develop and implement communication strategies to connect and engage the MaP community.
• Design, manage, and supervise all MaP research, education, and outreach programs.
• Lead specific initiatives such as the MaP Doctoral School and the ETH Sabbatical | CAS AMaP.

Requirements

• A strong academic background in science or engineering.
• Substantial professional experience in areas related to Materials and Processes.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
• Proven experience in community building and participatory processes.
• Strong project and business management skills, from strategic planning to execution.
• Proficiency in budgeting, financial management, evaluation, and reporting.
• Ability to work independently, responsibly, resourcefully, and resiliently.
• Fluency in both English and German is required.

Nice to have

• Practical experience in managing personnel, handling budgets, and leading research projects and education programs.
