Mechanical Design Engineer - SAFing Systems

Destinusgroup in Payerne, CH, seeks a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to develop SAFing systems for UAVs. The role involves designing energetic systems, managing manufacturing, and ensuring compliance with defense standards.

This position focuses on the design, development, and testing of energetics-based SAFing systems for unmanned aerial vehicles. Destinusgroup is advancing the defense industry with innovative UAV solutions and collaborates with global government and defense agencies to deliver mission-critical technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead design projects for airborne munitions components, from concept to manufacturing, integration, and testing.
• Create 3D CAD models, technical drawings, schematics, bills of material, and documentation needed for production and testing.
• Design and qualify energetic and pyrotechnic subsystems for defense applications.
• Prepare technical documentation, including engineering calculations, analysis, and design assumptions.
• Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturers to resolve technical issues during production.
• Select standard parts, fasteners, equipment, and consumables according to industry best practices.
• Support DMU and configuration management activities.

Requirements

• Solid understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes for safety-critical defense systems, including machining, sheet metal forming, composites, and additive manufacturing.
• Proven experience in designing and manufacturing warheads and munitions, particularly SAU, ISD, and fuzes.
• Advanced CAD and PLM skills, including part design, DWG creation, and DMU management.
• Strong engineering fundamentals with skills in dimensioning, load path analysis, stress calculations, and energy/power analysis.
• Experience with STANAG standards and designing safety-critical systems.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical or mechatronic engineering; technician qualifications with extensive experience may also be considered.
• Fluent in English, the primary working language.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in Fuzing/SAU or ISD design for energetic systems is highly beneficial.
• Knowledge of ISO/ASME GD&T standards is an advantage.
• Proficiency with Siemens NX and TeamCenter PLM system is preferred.
• Possession of an explosives handling license is a plus.
