Mechanical Engineer - Radar

Destinus seeks a Mid-level Mechanical Engineer in Zürich to design radar enclosures and thermal systems for defense applications, supporting European security initiatives.

This position focuses on applying expertise in high-frequency electronics and RF systems to create protective hardware for European defense. As part of a rapidly expanding startup, the engineer will operate in a dynamic environment where design concepts are realized quickly, differing from conventional aerospace development cycles. The role offers the opportunity to see direct contributions to national safety and security.

Responsibilities

• Create lightweight, durable, and RF-transparent enclosures and radome structures.
• Choose materials based on strength, weight, and corrosion resistance while conducting structural analysis for vibration, shock, and wind loads.
• Implement sealing, gasketing, and coating solutions to achieve required IP ratings and ensure functionality in extreme temperatures and harsh environments.
• Develop mounting and integration strategies for vehicles, towers, UAVs, and fixed installations, ensuring precise alignment and stability.
• Design passive and active cooling systems, conduct thermal simulations and testing, and collaborate with electronic engineers on thermomechanical PCB co-design.
• Support prototyping and manufacturing processes to guarantee manufacturability and quality standards.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter (TC).
• Knowledge of mechanical finite element analysis (FEA) and thermal simulation tools.
• Understanding of material properties including metals, composites, and polymers.
• Experience with environmental sealing standards such as IP65/IP67 or MIL-STD.
• Familiarity with precision mechanical assemblies and tolerancing.
• Experience with radar, RF systems, or high-frequency electronics packaging.
• Knowledge of MIL-STD-810 or similar environmental test standards.
• Proficiency with 3D-Printing technologies.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of ISO-GPS.
• Expertise in composites and sandwich structures.
