Destinusgroup in Zürich seeks a mid-level Patent Engineer to support IP strategy for autonomous flight technologies. The role involves collaborating with engineers and patent attorneys to protect innovations in UAVs for defense applications.
This position sits at the crossroads of aerospace engineering and intellectual property, supporting the transformation of technical ideas into protected innovations for autonomous flight systems. It is embedded within fast-moving engineering teams, working directly with inventors and external patent counsel to identify and secure novel technologies for Destinus’s defense-focused Unmanned Aerial Vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Support and execute the company’s intellectual property strategy across various engineering domains
- Serve as the main point of contact between engineering teams and external patent attorneys, ensuring technical concepts are accurately translated into patent applications
- Collaborate with inventors to draft patent disclosures and perform prior art searches
- Participate in technical reviews and engineering discussions to spot new, protectable innovations
- Monitor emerging technologies and competitive IP activity to identify potential infringement risks
- Contribute to building and maintaining a global patent portfolio aligned with Destinus’ technology roadmap
- Work with international teams and travel between sites as needed to support innovation and IP development
Requirements
- Prior experience in a Patent Engineer role or similar IP-focused technical position
- University degree in a scientific or engineering field such as Aerospace, Mechanical, Electronics, Computer Science, Physics, or related disciplines
- Solid knowledge of patent drafting, prior art analysis, and IP strategy
- Ability to grasp complex technical topics and explain them clearly to both technical and legal audiences
- Strong technical writing and communication skills in English
- Proactive, hands-on approach with a focus on solutions
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment
- Willingness to travel internationally between Destinus locations when required
