Physical Design Engineer

Amazon Switzerland seeks a Physical Design Engineer to manage end-to-end chip development from RTL to GDS, focusing on macro and cluster-level design optimization.

This position requires full ownership of the physical design process for macros and clusters, including defining implementation and sign-off methodologies. The engineer will handle all stages of chip development, from floorplanning to final verification, ensuring optimal power, area, and performance under tight constraints.

Responsibilities

• Manage the complete physical design workflow, covering floorplanning, synthesis, clock tree synthesis, placement and routing, static timing analysis, power and noise analysis, physical verification, and equivalence checks.
• Take complete responsibility for the physical design of macros and clusters, adhering to specifications and optimizing for power, area, and performance within challenging constraints.
• Define and refine implementation and sign-off methodologies.
• Participate in design flow development using EDA tools from vendors like Synopsis and Cadence.
• Engage in design-backend convergence and define timing constraints.

Requirements

• Comprehensive understanding of the physical design flow from RTL to GDS.
• Deep knowledge of sign-off activities, including timing and physical verification.
• Experience with advanced node technologies and implementation tools.
• Process and technology-oriented mindset.
• Leadership and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Full-chip experience in floor planning, layout, and timing.
• Previous experience in high-speed designs and multi-voltage low power designs.
