Senior Chip Design Engineer, Nitro Chip Design Team

Amazon Switzerland seeks a Senior Chip Design Engineer for the Nitro team to lead micro-architecture and RTL design for custom AWS silicon at a global scale.

This position is part of the Nitro Chip Design Team, which creates high-performance custom silicon for AWS products such as Nitro, Graviton, and Trainium. The engineer will collaborate with a world-class group to define future developments and ensure their work is deployed across a massive global infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for one or more intellectual properties, covering micro-architecture definition, RTL coding, debugging, synthesis, timing closure, and final sign-off prior to tape-out.
• Assist Verification and Emulation groups by developing test plans and reviewing coverage metrics.
• Guarantee that the final chip adheres to strict quality and reliability benchmarks.
• Work closely with cross-functional departments including Product Definition, Verification, Software, and Physical Design.

Requirements

• At least six years of professional experience in chip design.
• Practical background in micro-architecture and RTL design using Verilog or System Verilog.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as C*, Perl, Python, or TCL.
• A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex units and strong interpersonal communication skills.
• Proven leadership capabilities with a track record of owning difficult technical challenges.

Nice to have

• Deep understanding of protocols like AXI, CHI, DDR, Networking, and PCIe.
• Prior experience with Network-on-Chip (NOC) architecture.
• Familiarity with both coherent and non-coherent fabric design.
• End-to-end expertise in SoC development cycles, including Synthesis, STA, CDC, and Lint.
• Knowledge of Design Automation tools and methodologies.
• An advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline.
