Senior FPGA Engineer

3Brain seeks a Senior FPGA Engineer in Freienbach, CH, to develop embedded systems and high-speed data acquisition hardware using VHDL/Verilog and Intel/Xilinx tools.

As a deep tech innovator, 3Brain connects biological networks to computers through custom semiconductor microchips. The company is expanding its R&D department with a Senior FPGA Engineer to drive the creation of advanced cell-electronic interfaces that accelerate biomedical research.

Responsibilities

• Create and sustain embedded systems for high-speed data acquisition instruments.
• Manage data flow between high-speed ADCs and DACs.
• Architect IP cores for sophisticated signal processing and hardware acceleration.
• Establish FPGA infrastructure for peripheral communication protocols like SPI, UART, and I2C.
• Execute FPGA projects utilizing Intel Quartus and Xilinx Vivado environments.
• Build FPGA modules for Gbps-rate LVDS acquisition, transmission (USB, Ethernet, PCIe, CameraLink), and real-time processing using VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
• Develop comprehensive self-checking testbenches to validate designs.
• Write embedded software in C/C++ for Linux-based FPGA systems.
• Maintain and update the current code base.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of five years of professional experience in FPGA development and HDL coding.
• Hands-on proficiency with Intel Quartus or Xilinx Vivado.
• Ability to define FPGA timing constraints using Synopsys Design Constraints (.sdc).
• Solid understanding of embedded systems and systems on chip (SoC).
• Dedication to high coding standards and design best practices.
• Fundamental knowledge of electronics.
• Fluent command of English.
• Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently.

Nice to have

• PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in project or people management.
• Advanced skills in VHDL-2008, OSVVM, UVVM, or VUnit.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ embedded software programming.
• Familiarity with the Linux operating system for embedded applications.
• Competence in Python programming.
• Background in signal processing.
