Platform Team Lead

Blp Digital seeks a Platform Team Lead in Zürich to lead a growing team of senior engineers, focusing on Go and MySQL. The role requires hands-on coding, team leadership, and cross-team coordination in a hybrid work environment.

This role leads the Platform SAT Team, a group of 5 senior engineers (expanding to 8) who support the company’s major technical initiatives. The leader will remain deeply involved in coding, incident response, and feature delivery while guiding team growth and technical excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of 5 senior engineers, each focused on distinct high-impact platform projects
• Expand the team to 8 by conducting interviews, calibrating candidates, and closing hires
• Coordinate with other engineering teams to align priorities, resolve dependencies, and deliver cross-team initiatives
• Write and review Go code daily, setting standards for quality, correctness, and design
• Optimize MySQL performance through query tuning, indexing, schema design, and scaling decisions
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident response during production outages
• Establish and enforce engineering best practices including observability, documentation, code reviews, and testing
• Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, career development discussions, and team rituals
• Translate business goals into a clear technical roadmap for the team to execute

Requirements

• Proven experience managing a team of 5+ senior engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development
• Strong expertise in MySQL, including query optimization, indexing, replication, and performance tuning under load
• Experience managing production systems, including on-call duties, incident response, observability, and postmortems
• Familiarity with functional programming concepts and languages; software quality understanding beyond surface-level best practices
• Ability to continuously learn and adapt to make sound technical decisions
• Capacity to think beyond specific languages and frameworks
• Track record of improving engineering standards and raising code quality, correctness, and testing rigor
• Experience collaborating across teams without direct authority, aligning priorities and driving results
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Experience with Haskell
• Background in leading platform or infrastructure teams
• Experience scaling systems with high concurrency or large data volumes
• Proven success in hiring senior engineers in competitive markets
