Sonova seeks a Senior Power Management Engineer in Stäfa, CH, to design and optimize energy systems for next-generation AI hearing aids.
This position operates at the intersection of electronic design, battery innovation, and embedded software. The engineer drives the energy architectures that allow advanced hearing intelligence to function reliably, ensuring that cutting-edge AI features have the stable power they need to perform.
Responsibilities
- Create, refine, and optimize power management solutions and battery systems for hearing devices and their chargers
- Select, integrate, and test power circuits for both rechargeable and primary battery configurations
- Assess and implement Power Management ICs (PMICs) alongside various power conversion topologies
- Develop battery management strategies, including State of Health/Charge estimation, charging protocols, protection logic, and energy efficiency tactics
- Work closely with hardware and firmware specialists to guarantee seamless integration of power functions
- Build and verify electrical and system models to predict power usage, load patterns, and battery performance
- Investigate and resolve intricate power-related system faults by identifying root causes
- Enhance existing power management platforms, methodologies, and development workflows
- Research new power management technologies and energy concepts to support upcoming product lines
Requirements
- Master’s or PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Microelectronics, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated background in designing power management systems for low-power embedded devices, covering DC/DC conversion, load switches, and charging circuits
- Knowledge of rechargeable and non-rechargeable battery technologies, including system-level behavior, load profiling, power analysis, and battery aging
- Practical experience in electrical characterization, lab measurements, and data-driven validation of power systems
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis, automation, and model creation
- Fluent command of spoken and written English
Nice to have
- Experience optimizing ultra-low-power systems under strict energy and size constraints
- Background in debugging complex power-related issues in low-power applications and charging systems
- Skills in MATLAB
