Process Development Engineer Thin Films (PVD / Plasma / Vacuum Coating)

Evatec seeks a Process Development Engineer to design and optimize thin-film deposition processes using PVD and plasma technologies for high-tech equipment.

This position supports a multinational team of scientists and engineers in Switzerland, focusing on the development of advanced thin film deposition equipment for semiconductor, optical, and optoelectronics sectors.

Responsibilities

• Develop and refine thin-film processes, including PVD, sputtering, and plasma techniques, by adjusting layer stacks, targets, and operational parameters.
• Independently run coating machinery and pilot setups to conduct necessary experiments.
• Manage development projects from initial feasibility assessments through to final process validation.
• Evaluate process stability, uniformity, and material characteristics to create reliable and repeatable manufacturing methods.
• Collaborate with external customers, partners, and internal hardware and engineering groups.

Requirements

• Possess a Master’s degree or PhD in materials science, physics, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrate prior experience in thin-film or vacuum process development within industries such as semiconductors, optics, or coating.
• Apply Design of Experiments (DoE) methodologies confidently and utilize data-driven approaches.
• Possess a solid understanding of thin-film physics, plasma behavior, and material interactions.
