The University of Zurich seeks a Professor of Evolutionary Anthropology and Primatology to teach across biology and interdisciplinary programs, conduct research, and secure external funding.
This professorship is deeply embedded in the Faculty of Science's biology programs and extends to other disciplines, particularly religious and gender studies. The role focuses on delivering rigorous, interdisciplinary education while advancing research in evolutionary anthropology and primatology.
Responsibilities
- Deliver a mix of foundational lectures, advanced seminars, and intensive block courses across core and elective modules.
- Teach key subjects in comparative evolutionary anthropology, primatology, and the biological and cultural evolution of gender relations.
- Design methodologically rigorous and interdisciplinary teaching formats, with a focus on behavioral research, reproductive and evolutionary biology, and the socioecology of power.
- Collaborate on cross-faculty teaching modules exploring gender, power, and evolution.
- Secure external research funding to support academic activities.
Requirements
- Demonstrate an established research career in evolutionary anthropology and primatology.
- Show a strong record of research publications, successful acquisition of third-party funding, and effective teaching and mentoring.
- Conduct high-quality research that adheres to Open Science principles.
- Actively support and promote the development of junior researchers.
