Tecan Group AG seeks a Mid-level Project Manager to lead end-to-end R&D development projects in lab automation and clinical diagnostics, ensuring compliance with ISO 13485 and other regulations.

This position sits within the Research and Development division, where the incumbent holds full accountability for mid-sized initiatives, including both internal efforts and customer-specific engagements. The role requires guiding projects from initial feasibility through to industrialization, ensuring successful delivery of project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Assembling cross-functional teams with the appropriate mix of professional expertise.
  • Overseeing the planning, staffing, and execution of development projects for lab automation and clinical diagnostics in line with established processes.
  • Tracking complex project timelines, monitoring progress, and reporting status while coordinating with related initiatives.
  • Maintaining proactive and clear communication with internal stakeholders, including management board members.
  • Providing visible leadership across all organizational levels.
  • Coordinating efforts among team members distributed across various locations.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to processes, guidelines, and regulations, including ISO 13485, IEC 61010, and the machinery directive (2006/42/EC).
  • Leading cross-functional activities to drive project success from feasibility studies and product development through design transfer and industrialization.
  • Managing stakeholder relationships and resolving conflicts within the project team and across departments.

Requirements

  • A BSc or MSc in a technical field, preferably engineering, life sciences, mechanical, or electrical disciplines.
  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience, ideally in developing complex instruments or automated solutions for diagnostic applications.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong presentation and communication abilities, capable of explaining technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience leading highly regulated product development projects, with a focus on automation, assay development, and agile methodologies.

Nice to have

  • A PhD in Life Sciences, complemented by project management education, PMP or similar certifications, and training in change management and leadership.
  • Background in product management and business administration.
  • Proficiency in additional languages, particularly German.
