Propulsion Technician

Harmattan Ai in Lausanne seeks a mid-level Propulsion Technician for onsite, full-time work. The role involves managing the motor testbench, supporting propulsion engineers, and ensuring high-quality testing for autonomous defense systems.

This position is part of the Propulsion team and focuses on owning the motor testbench platform to speed up development. The technician works closely with engineers to reduce their testing burden and directly contributes to flight capabilities through rigorous testing and organized hardware management.

Responsibilities

• Carry out detailed test campaigns for motors and propellers using internal propulsion tools.
• Guarantee consistent, high-quality test results by spotting anomalies or resonant frequencies and working with engineers to determine root causes.
• Organize and label test equipment, including motors, propellers, and stators.
• Refine and improve test methods to boost efficiency and data accuracy.
• Adhere to safety protocols when handling high-power propulsion systems (>1kW) and keep the workspace clean and orderly.
• Produce technical graphs and comprehensive reports from collected data for engineering team review.

Requirements

• Previous experience in testing or UAV environments is preferred, along with a solid understanding of propulsion physics or electric propulsion systems.
• Strong hands-on ability to assemble, mount, and maintain mechanical and electrical components.
• High attention to detail and precision, capable of maintaining consistency during repetitive tasks.
• Ability to think clearly under pressure or during emergencies and independently investigate unexpected outcomes.
• Comfortable operating in noisy, high-power electrical environments.
• Skilled in communicating technical results with engineers and contributing to product development discussions.

Nice to have

• Basic Python programming skills to interact with internal data tools.
