Python Software Engineer – Test Systems

Volpi AG seeks a Python Software Engineer for test systems in Dietikon. The role blends hands-on Python development with hardware integration for IVD and Life Sciences instruments.

Based at the Swiss headquarters in Dietikon, this position focuses on creating robust software solutions for diagnostic equipment. The work is split between approximately 70% Python coding and 30% hardware integration, supporting both manufacturing and end-of-line testing processes.

Responsibilities

• Create and upkeep a Python-based framework for test systems used across various product lines.
• Design and build drivers and interfaces for hardware, including serial, Ethernet, and instrument protocols.
• Develop and refine automated test sequences, including hardware-in-the-loop configurations.
• Assist in building test systems for manufacturing and final product validation.
• Integrate automated test execution into CI/CD pipelines.
• Partner with embedded software engineers to ensure comprehensive system-level testing.
• Coordinate with the Quality team to support tool validation activities.

Requirements

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• Proven, strong experience in Python software development.
• Background in test automation, framework creation, hardware driver development, or measurement software.
• Ability to write clean, modular, and maintainable Python code.
• Familiarity with standard development practices like Git, unit testing, debugging, code reviews, and documentation.
• Practical experience in hardware interfacing and driver development.
• Experience connecting software with hardware or instruments via serial, Ethernet, USB, SCPI, or similar protocols.
• Fluent English communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with automated testing methodologies, HIL setups, or laboratory instrumentation.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of C/C++, particularly for embedded firmware interaction.
• Background in tool validation within regulated sectors like IVD, medical devices, automotive, or aerospace.
• German language skills.
