ITech Consult AG seeks a Research Associate in Basel for in vivo nonmalignant hematology studies. The position involves designing and executing animal experiments to evaluate therapies for bleeding, thrombotic, and anemia disorders.
This position is embedded within the Discovery unit and collaborates closely with clinical teams to support the preclinical assessment of new treatments for nonmalignant hematologic conditions. The successful candidate will take full ownership of experimental workflows, ranging from hands-on animal studies and sample processing to functional assay execution, data interpretation, and the characterization of drug candidates in hemostasis and thrombosis.
Responsibilities
- Plan, conduct, and interpret a variety of in vivo and in vitro experiments focused on coagulation.
- Assess the safety and efficacy of new pharmaceutical compounds using molecular and biochemical techniques, such as ELISA, thrombin generation, and chromogenic assays, on both murine and human samples.
- Prepare, manage, and analyze patient-derived materials, including blood and plasma, in in vitro and ex vivo contexts.
- Analyze experimental data and communicate findings to the wider team.
- Ensure accurate documentation, support laboratory organization, and manage safety protocols and inventory.
Requirements
- A BSc or MSc in Life Sciences (e.g., molecular biology, pharmacology, immunology, or coagulation) with 2–3 years of practical animal study experience; PhD holders are not considered.
- Alternatively, a completed apprenticeship as a Research Associate (Lehrabschluss) combined with 4–5 years of relevant academic or industry experience.
- Possession of an active LTK1 or FELASA certification, or an equivalent credential, with any mandatory continuing education already completed.
- Proven practical skills in in vivo procedures, including compound administration, animal monitoring, and organ sampling.
- Extensive hands-on experience with in vitro techniques, such as DNA/RNA isolation, ELISA, qPCR, and various biochemical and protein-based assays.
- Demonstrated independence in designing experiments and analyzing data.
- Ability to manage in vivo and in vitro studies from initiation to completion without supervision.
- Fluent proficiency in English.
Nice to have
- Practical experience with thrombin generation and chromogenic substrate assays.
- Background in performing surgical procedures on rodents, including in vivo thrombosis and bleeding models.
- Understanding of coagulation, hemostasis, bleeding, or thrombosis biology.
- Previous work experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors.
