RiSM Internship: PFAS-Free Analysis of Peptide APIs (Basel, 12 months)

A 12-month onsite internship in Basel focused on developing PFAS-free analytical methods for peptide APIs within Roche's Analytical Development team.

This internship sits within the Analytical Development & Quality Control division of Pharma Technical Development. The primary objective is to assist the department in creating and validating sustainable, PFAS-free analytical techniques for New Chemical Entities, with a specific emphasis on peptides.

Responsibilities

• Perform an extensive review of existing literature regarding PFAS-free analytical methods for characterizing New Chemical Entities.
• Engage in sustainable research initiatives to substitute hazardous solvents and modifiers with environmentally friendly, PFAS-free alternatives in standard workflows.
• Develop and refine alternative RP-HPLC methods tailored for the characterization of New Chemical Entities.
• Join regular alignment meetings with supervisors to review project status and address technical challenges.
• Prepare a detailed final report summarizing the internship findings.
• Deliver a professional presentation of results to the scientific team.
• Create a slide deck that outlines a roadmap for transitioning analytical processes to greener practices.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a university program or graduated within the last 12 months before the start date.
• Background in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or Biochemistry is preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in a laboratory setting with foundational knowledge of HPLC, UHPLC, and LC-MS systems.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Fluency in English is required; strong proficiency in German is considered a significant advantage.

Nice to have

• Practical experience working with New Chemical Entities, such as peptides or oligonucleotides.
• Ability to communicate effectively in German.
