Senior Backend Developer - Full Remote (EU only)

Jobtome seeks a Senior Backend Developer for a fully remote role to build scalable Go services and APIs. The position is open to candidates within the EU.

Jobtome is hiring a hands-on senior engineer to lead the design and maintenance of critical backend systems. This position requires daily involvement in production coding while shaping architectural choices and technical strategy for complex product workflows.

Responsibilities

• Architect, code, and sustain backend services using Go.
• Develop and refine APIs, utilizing GraphQL or REST, to support intricate product processes.
• Create backend structures that prioritize scalability, reliability, and ease of maintenance.
• Partner with frontend developers, product managers, data engineers, and designers.
• Handle data modeling, core business logic, and performance tuning.
• Review code and engage in technical and architectural dialogues.
• Enhance code standards, testing frameworks, observability, and system stability.
• Address technical debt and execute refactoring for long-term system health.
• Manage backend features from initial design through to deployment.
• Participate in Agile practices such as planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Go (Golang).
• Background in designing APIs via GraphQL and/or REST.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases.
• Familiarity with BigQuery and other NoSQL solutions.
• Knowledge of distributed systems and service-oriented architectures.
• Experience using Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of cloud infrastructure, preferably GCP.
• Skill in implementing observability practices, including logging, metrics, and tracing.
• Competence in writing unit and/or integration tests.
• Experience operating within Kubernetes environments.
• Capacity to work autonomously without rigid specifications.
• Willingness to take ownership of complex features.
• Ability to make architectural decisions and articulate trade-offs.
• Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-structured code.
• Proactive approach to identifying issues and suggesting solutions.
• Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Dedication to improving team quality through code reviews and leadership by example.

Nice to have

• Practical experience with Python.
• Exposure to Protobuf and gRPC.
