Senior Engineer/Senior R&D Specialist Systems Innovation

Nestle seeks a Senior Engineer for Systems Innovation in Orbe, CH, to lead early-stage research and development for next-generation coffee systems.

The company is looking for a senior specialist to drive research and innovation for new coffee systems, covering the entire journey from initial concept design through to pre-development and knowledge transfer. This role focuses on integrating machines, ingredients, and preparation processes to enhance consumer experiences, while collaborating closely with key business partners like Nespresso and Nescafé Dolce Gusto, as well as external suppliers and academic institutions.

Responsibilities

• Spearhead research initiatives and early-stage innovation projects for upcoming Nespresso and Nescafé Dolce Gusto hardware.
• Develop technical components, subsystems, and modular building blocks that enable future beverage experiences.
• Monitor technology trends, competitor activities, and consumer insights to build a robust innovation pipeline.
• Transform concepts into tangible prototypes through rapid testing, experimentation, and validation of new machine and capsule solutions.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and meeting all quality and safety standards.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in machine design, system performance, machine intelligence, materials, and quality-by-design principles.
• Strong background in embedded systems, including hardware and software development, signal processing, and data acquisition for interconnected devices.
• Proficiency in using prototyping techniques for mechanics and electronics, along with computer-aided design, simulations, and testing methods to refine technical concepts.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across functions, manage supplier relationships, and handle project priorities, timelines, risks, and costs.
