Proton seeks a Senior Product Manager to lead a new privacy-focused community product in Geneva. The role involves defining strategy, managing the roadmap, and driving execution for a high-impact user base.
This position is responsible for leading a new product that sits at the intersection of product strategy, community dynamics, and Proton’s mission to empower users’ digital privacy. The successful candidate will own the roadmap and execution for a product designed to deliver privacy-first community experiences to millions of users, operating within a small, senior team with a broad scope.
Responsibilities
- Establish and steer the end-to-end product strategy and roadmap, starting from first principles and delivering shipped features without needing top-down direction.
- Define and monitor key metrics such as activation, engagement, retention, and community health, setting targets and adjusting quickly based on data signals.
- Leverage deep insights into online community behavior to formulate a clear product vision and a prioritized execution plan.
- Lead cross-functional execution involving 6–12 engineers, as well as design, data, and growth teams.
- Conduct structured discovery processes, including user research, competitive analysis, and direct feedback loops.
- Represent the product externally to users, partners, and internal leadership.
Requirements
- Over 10 years of product management experience, including significant time working on social, messaging, or community platforms.
- Strong grasp of community product mechanics, including engagement loops, content moderation trade-offs, trust and safety, and network effects.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to define success through numbers, run structured experiments, and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to write and speak precisely and keep stakeholders aligned.
- Proven track record of leading products autonomously without a pre-defined roadmap.
Nice to have
- Experience developing privacy-respecting alternatives to mainstream social or community platforms.
- Familiarity with open-source community protocols such as atproto, IETF MLS, or Matrix.
- Background in scaling a community product from early traction to millions of active users.
