Senior Software Engineer - Python and UI experience is a must

SonicWALL AG seeks a Senior Software Engineer to lead platform services and UI components. The role requires deep Python expertise and experience with modern web frameworks in a hybrid setup.

This position is responsible for the end-to-end ownership of platform services and user-facing interfaces across SonicWALL’s product suite. The engineer ensures reliable workflow execution, seamless user experiences, and scalable service delivery. Working within a small, versatile engineering team, the role covers multiple technical domains including job orchestration, API management, and deployment infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Manage the job orchestration platform, handling message queue scheduling, task dispatching, and workflow lifecycle execution.
• Design, build, and maintain management, appliance-facing, and customer-facing APIs using threaded and asynchronous Python services.
• Enhance UrlProtection services, including headless browser automation, WHOIS lookups, and time-of-click functionality.
• Maintain and modernize the large-scale operator and customer web application built with TypeScript and Vue.
• Oversee the data access and integration layer, managing MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Redis, MongoDB, Consul, and URL verdict caching.
• Handle build, packaging, and deployment processes, including Cython builds, Docker multi-stage images, CI/CD workflows, and multi-VM Docker Compose setups.
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues such as queue backlogs, workflow failures, stuck jobs, API errors, and deployment incidents.
• Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve platform scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Provide maintenance-level support and first-line incident triage for Python analysis pipelines, static analysis engines, MLOps, and VM diagnostics.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or 6+ years with a Master's, 3+ years with a PhD, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong Python development experience in both multithreaded and asynchronous programming models, including asyncio, aiohttp, and FastAPI.
• Experience designing and supporting distributed task processing systems using RabbitMQ, Taskiq/Redis, Celery, or similar messaging technologies.
• Experience building and maintaining web APIs using Flask, FastAPI, or similar frameworks.
• Front-end development experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern component frameworks such as Vue, React, or Angular.
• Proficiency with MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Redis, MongoDB, and Consul.
• Experience with Docker, Docker Compose, CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins, and Debian packaging.
• Comfortable working in Linux environments, including process troubleshooting, log analysis, and shell scripting on Ubuntu or Debian-based systems.
• Strong written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a distributed, asynchronous team environment.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with build environments supporting compiled Python extensions.
