SonicWALL AG seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead architecture and development of secure, scalable cloud-native microservices for its Network Security Manager platform, leveraging Go and AI-assisted development practices.
The company is looking for a principal-level engineer to define the technical direction for its Network Security Manager (NSM) platform. This role involves building secure, high-performance microservices that integrate with the broader Unified Management ecosystem, serving enterprise and service provider clients globally. The position requires leading system design efforts while mentoring senior staff and ensuring rigorous security and quality standards across a distributed engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Define technical strategy and architecture for NSM and related unified management platforms.
- Mentor senior engineers, promote engineering best practices, and drive the adoption of coding standards.
- Lead end-to-end system design, including requirements analysis, data modeling, API contracts, and deployment topology.
- Develop and maintain high-performance Go microservices for both cloud (AWS) and on-premises NSM deployments.
- Build and evolve RESTful APIs to support large-scale enterprise customers.
- Implement mTLS for secure service-to-service and client-to-service communication.
- Ensure adherence to secure software development frameworks, addressing OWASP Top 10 risks throughout the lifecycle.
- Instrument services with OpenTelemetry, New Relic, and OpenSearch for structured logging, tracing, and metrics.
- Collaborate with product and engineering managers on roadmap feasibility, effort estimation, and risk assessment.
- Validate, test, and refine code generated by AI tools, establishing guardrails and maintaining engineering rigor.
- Ensure feature and security parity between cloud-native (AWS/Kubernetes) and on-premises microservice deployments.
Requirements
- 8–10 years of software development experience using Golang on Linux or macOS.
- Proven ability to design distributed, multi-tenant SaaS architectures at scale.
- Strong understanding of event-driven architecture.
- Hands-on expertise with OWASP Top 10, threat modeling, and secure design code reviews.
- Experience with AI coding tools, including critical validation of generated code to identify security vulnerabilities, logic errors, and inefficiencies.
- Ability to iteratively collaborate with AI to refine and test code in small, reviewable chunks.
- Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting production issues quickly.
- Proficiency with Git and standard version control workflows.
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools, specifically JIRA for issue tracking and Confluence for documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical decisions clearly.
- Self-motivated and organized, with the ability to thrive in a globally distributed team environment.
