Amazon RIVR seeks a Senior Software Engineer in Zürich to design and integrate robotic platform software for last-mile delivery robots. The role combines real-world deployment, C++/Python development, and cross-functional collaboration.
Amazon RIVR, an Amazon subsidiary founded in 2024 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, builds wheeled-legged robots for complex last-mile delivery environments. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Robot Platform, you will architect, develop, and integrate the core software stack, bridging simulation, hardware, and cloud coordination to enable safe, reliable autonomous operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the integration of the robot's software stack, spanning simulation environments and physical hardware, while coordinating with specialists in AI-driven autonomy, SLAM, computer vision, and manipulation.
- Partner with the Embedded Systems group to establish seamless interfaces between platform software and hardware drivers.
- Develop and deploy production-grade code optimized for the robot's onboard computational limits.
- Collaborate with DevOps to embed platform development into CI/CD pipelines, streamlining build, test, and release workflows.
- Guide the Field Engineering team during platform deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance.
- Advise product managers and executives on technical strategy and roadmap decisions.
- Author and maintain documentation, technical guidelines, and best practices to support knowledge sharing across teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- At least five years of industry or research experience; PhD-level research counts toward this requirement.
- Proven background in robotics or autonomous driving, covering the full stack: sensors, perception, mapping, localization, navigation, and control.
- Hands-on experience deploying software on hardware platforms.
- Proficiency in writing production-level code in modern C++.
- Ability to prototype algorithms using Python.
- Practical experience working with ROS (Robot Operating System).
Nice to have
- Master's degree or PhD in Robotics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Prior work with autonomous robots, vehicles, or cars.
- Experience leading or managing a software engineering team.
