Senior Specialist Data Science

Nestlé Research in Lausanne seeks a Senior Specialist to apply advanced mathematical modelling and digital biology to transform complex health and nutrition data into actionable scientific insights.

This position focuses on leveraging applied mathematics and digital biology to convert intricate biological, clinical, and nutritional datasets into predictive and interpretable outcomes. The specialist will work alongside diverse scientific and technical teams to drive innovation in health and nutrition research through robust, mechanism-based modelling.

Responsibilities

• Spearhead applied mathematics and digital biology initiatives to enhance predictive, mechanism-driven health and nutrition research.
• Create sophisticated mathematical, statistical, and computational models to support scientific decision-making across various research programs.
• Convert complex data from biological, clinical, nutritional, microbiome, and omics sources into clear insights that aid discovery and validation.
• Design artificial intelligence-driven analytical workflows that shift project teams from descriptive analysis to predictive, decision-ready science.
• Advise cross-functional groups on utilizing reliable models, reproducible processes, and actionable recommendations to speed up health-benefit innovation.
• Develop future-ready digital biology capabilities by establishing scalable models, workflows, and strategic partnerships to reinforce Nestlé’s leadership in the field.

Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in mathematical modelling, statistical learning, machine learning, causal inference, optimisation, predictive modelling, and mechanistic modelling.
• Experience applying quantitative methods to complex datasets involving health, nutrition, biology, clinical trials, microbiome, omics, or experimental data.
• Fluent proficiency in English for professional communication.

• Knowledge of digital biology approaches such as digital twins, virtual cells, agentic AI, and foundation models to accelerate discovery.
• Ability to collaborate across research, data science, clinical, nutrition, and digital teams while explaining complex models clearly.
