Settlement Specialist (12-month contract) (80–100%)

The company seeks a Settlement Specialist for a 12-month contract in Geneva to manage transaction settlements, reconcile trades, and ensure regulatory compliance. The role requires strong operational knowledge and multilingual communication skills.

This position focuses on the operational management of transaction settlements. The specialist ensures trades are processed correctly and on time, while handling complex situations and maintaining clear communication with internal and external stakeholders to support smooth daily operations.

Responsibilities

  • Track pending transactions daily until they are fully settled.
  • Analyze and handle complex trades and unusual scenarios.
  • Spot patterns in settlement instruction changes and update networks to improve automation.
  • Suggest ways to streamline processes and boost efficiency.
  • Verify and coordinate payments for exceptions, such as netting.
  • Work closely with clients, custodians, and internal departments to fix settlement problems.
  • Reconcile cash and securities positions daily, resolve discrepancies, and maintain clear records.
  • Ensure adherence to financial regulations and internal policies for Delivery versus Payment and Free of Payment transactions.
  • Follow all regulatory standards and company guidelines.
  • Identify operational risks and review procedures to mitigate them.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or business administration, or a Swiss banking apprenticeship.
  • Solid understanding of SWIFT ISO 20022 standards, especially MT54x messages, regulatory rules, and custodian platforms.
  • Familiarity with financial instruments like bonds and equities.
  • Fluency in French and English (at least B2 level); German is preferred.
  • Current residence in Switzerland or readiness to relocate there.

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in back- or middle-office roles.
  • German language proficiency.
