Software Engineer

Proton seeks a Mid-level Software Engineer in Geneva to develop its privacy-focused Chromium browser, focusing on security hardening and performance optimization.

The company is looking for a developer to join its browser product team, contributing to a technically ambitious, privacy-first internet browser used by millions. This position involves collaborating with product and design teams to deliver a high-quality, secure browsing experience on desktop platforms.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a Chromium-based browser, contributing to engineering efforts at scale.
• Work with large codebases, including Blink, V8, the network stack, sandboxing, and extensions, using C++.
• Implement privacy and security enhancements, such as anti-fingerprinting, content blocking, and telemetry reduction.
• Ensure a fast, distraction-free user experience with a strong emphasis on product quality and performance.
• Apply knowledge of web platform standards and security best practices when releasing browser features.

Requirements

• Proven experience in building or maintaining a Chromium-based browser.
• Strong proficiency in C++.
• Familiarity with Chromium's build system and cross-platform development for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
• Practical experience implementing privacy or security hardening measures.
• Ability to thrive in a small, high-ownership team where navigating ambiguity is common.

Nice to have

• Experience contributing to or working within open-source projects.
• Knowledge or experience with Rust.
