Speechify seeks a Mid-level Software Engineer for its Platform team in Basel, Switzerland. This remote role focuses on backend API development to support the mission of removing reading barriers.
As a member of the Platform team, this position is dedicated to building and maintaining the backend services that power Speechify’s core technology. The role exists to ensure that reading remains accessible for everyone, supporting a distributed team in a flat organizational structure where technical excellence drives leadership opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Create, update, and sustain reliable APIs, including both public text-to-speech interfaces and internal systems.
- Manage the entire backend API ecosystem, focusing on improvements for speed and long-term code health.
- Partner with other departments to deliver customized B2B solutions that meet enterprise integration requirements.
- Align backend architectural decisions with broader product goals through close collaboration with cross-functional groups.
Requirements
- Demonstrated background in backend engineering with TypeScript and Node.js.
- Hands-on experience working with Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Familiarity with other cloud environments such as AWS or Azure.
- Ability to quickly move from concept to execution, prioritizing work based on urgency and business impact.
Nice to have
- Background in using Docker for containerized application deployments.
- Skill in deploying and managing highly available applications on Kubernetes.
