Software Engineer (Java) - Remediation Agent

SonarSource seeks a mid-level Software Engineer (Java) in Geneva to work on the Remediation Agent, part of the CodeGen squad building backend systems for AI-driven code fixes. The role involves developing and maintaining backend logic for a unified remediation engine, integrating AI agents with existing tools, and ensuring secure, scalable execution on AWS.

The Remediation Agent role is part of SonarSource’s CodeGen squad, focused on building backend components for Verified Autonomous Remediation to close the 'Trust Gap' in AI code review. Sonar, a leader in AI-powered code verification, powers tools used by over 75% of Fortune 100 companies and is driving the future of agent-centric software development.

Responsibilities

• Develop backend features for the Unified Remediation Engine, routing requests between deterministic fixes and AI agents.
• Translate research concepts into production-ready agent logic, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Manage the full lifecycle of assigned features, including deployment to AWS, monitoring system health, and resolving production issues.
• Enhance security and performance by implementing runners and isolation layers within the existing sandboxing framework for safe execution of AI-generated code.
• Contribute to team knowledge by reviewing pull requests, documenting work, and sharing insights with colleagues.

Requirements

• Proven experience in backend engineering (3+ years), with a history of building and maintaining robust backend systems.
• Strong skills in Java or Python, essential for integration with Sonar’s ecosystem and AI/agent logic.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud operations, including Lambda, ECS, or similar, and familiarity with deployment pipelines, logging, and system monitoring.
• Solid grasp of system fundamentals, such as service communication (REST, queues, async processing) and debugging distributed systems.
• Ownership mindset: proactive in task delivery, risk identification, and ensuring high-quality output before production.

Nice to have

• Interest in AI and LLMs, with experience using LLM APIs such as OpenAI or Anthropic, is advantageous.
