Solution Engineer/ Expert 80-100%

Coopers Group AG seeks a Senior Solution Engineer to lead the custom Debian-based Core OS Platform, handling kernel customization, infrastructure evolution, and complex system troubleshooting in a hybrid role based in Rotkreuz.

This position is responsible for owning and advancing the custom Debian-based Core OS Platform. The engineer acts as the primary escalation point for intricate, low-level system challenges and guides internal project teams on effectively utilizing the Roche Linux platform.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the Core OS Platform, focusing on kernel modifications and driver integration.
• Enhance the infrastructure and workflows used for constructing, validating, and distributing the Linux release.
• Conduct in-depth debugging and root-cause analysis to resolve sophisticated system issues.
• Anticipate requirements and drive improvements to the distribution, associated tools, and operational processes.

Requirements

• Over a decade of extensive, practical experience with the Linux stack.
• Demonstrated history of creating, altering, or supporting a tailored Linux distribution, particularly Debian.
• Strong ability to generate, patch, and manage .deb packages from the ground up.
• High proficiency in Python and Shell scripting for automation and tool development.
• Comprehensive understanding of OS theory, build systems, and the complete testing and packaging cycle.

Nice to have

• Skills in systems programming languages such as C or C++.
• Background in embedded systems, ARM architecture, hardware drivers, and low-level integration.
• Familiarity with modern infrastructure practices including virtualization, containers, CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience working with cloud environments like AWS.
