Elan AG is hiring a Senior Platform Engineer for an on-site role in Zug. The position focuses on developing and maintaining a custom Linux distribution and OS abstraction layer for medical devices using C++.
The company is looking for an experienced Linux software engineer to join a team dedicated to Roche's in-house Linux distribution for medical devices. The core mission involves building and sustaining the next-generation OS abstraction layer, which relies on a C++ system daemon and a wide range of plugins that expose operating system functions via an RPC API.
Responsibilities
- Build and sustain the custom OS abstraction layer, with a strong emphasis on the C++ backend and the upcoming system daemon.
- Create a broad suite of plugins that allow operating system capabilities to be accessed through an RPC API.
- Provide technical support for medical instrument and software initiatives, including the ongoing evolution of the proprietary Linux distribution.
- Maintain high system quality by performing C++ unit and integration tests, refactoring older code, and handling Debian packaging and configuration management.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of practical experience with modern C++.
- Proficiency in using Linux as a primary development environment.
- A Master’s degree in Software Engineering, a degree in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong collaborative skills, a proactive attitude, quick learning ability, and the capacity to solve problems independently.
- Advanced English proficiency, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to have
- Background in virtualization, container technologies, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with cloud providers like AWS and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Experience in embedded software, hardware drivers, ARM platforms, or hardware/software integration.
- Knowledge of the German language is considered an advantage.
