Platform Engineer (C++/Linux)

RMIT Professional Resources AG seeks a Senior Platform Engineer in Zug to build a C++ Linux abstraction layer for medical devices. This hybrid contract role requires deep expertise in modern C++ and Linux system development.

The company is looking for an experienced engineer to design and maintain a custom operating system abstraction layer. This position plays a key part in evolving an in-house Linux distribution specifically tailored for medical device applications, ensuring robust backend performance and system reliability.

Responsibilities

• Architect and sustain a system daemon alongside a plugin suite that exposes OS capabilities via an RPC API.
• Develop and uphold unit and integration tests to guarantee software quality, stability, and ease of maintenance.
• Modernize legacy codebases, handle Debian packaging and configuration, and lead ongoing platform enhancements.
• Partner with cross-functional engineering groups to provide technical solutions for medical instrument and software projects.

Requirements

• Over a decade of practical experience with modern C++ programming.
• Proven track record of software development within Linux environments.
• A Master’s degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science, or comparable professional experience.
• Proficiency in unit and integration testing, code refactoring, and Debian packaging or configuration.
• Fluent English communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with virtualization or container solutions like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform.
• Background in Embedded Linux, hardware drivers, ARM platforms, or hardware/software integration.
• Ability to speak German.
