Solutions Architect

Blockstream seeks a Senior Solutions Architect in Zürich to design secure, scalable blockchain solutions for enterprise and institutional clients. The role involves end-to-end platform architecture, integrating blockchain with financial systems, and collaborating across engineering and client teams.

This role is responsible for designing and building secure, scalable blockchain and digital asset solutions for enterprise and institutional clients. The Solutions Architect owns the full lifecycle of client platforms, from initial design to deployment, and works within the Service & Enterprise Solutions organization to bridge technical innovation with practical implementation in banking and institutional environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver blockchain and digital asset solutions for use cases in banking, custody, payments, and treasury management
• Architect secure, scalable platforms that integrate blockchain infrastructure with core financial systems
• Define technical architecture including API design, data flows, event-driven systems, and integration patterns
• Make platform-level decisions on deployment models (cloud, hybrid, on-premise), consensus mechanisms, and security protocols
• Evaluate and select blockchain platforms, protocols, and tools based on client needs and technical feasibility
• Ensure solutions meet cryptographic security standards, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices
• Collaborate with delivery, development, and DevOps teams to ensure architectures are buildable, testable, and operable
• Create and maintain technical documentation such as architecture diagrams, system specs, and integration guides
• Identify and escalate architectural risks, technical dependencies, and performance bottlenecks
• Mentor junior architects and developers on architectural patterns, blockchain best practices, and secure coding

Requirements

• 5-10 years of experience in solution architecture, platform engineering, or enterprise system implementation
• Strong understanding of blockchain, distributed systems, and cryptographic principles
• Experience designing multi-system platforms in regulated financial environments
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and modern deployment practices
• Deep expertise in API-based architectures, microservices, and event-driven systems
• Strong knowledge of security protocols, encryption, authentication, and authorization
• Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and business audiences
• Self-motivated, collaborative individual capable of working across teams and geographies with high-quality customer engagement
• Must be fluent in Swiss German, German, and English

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with blockchain platforms such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Hyperledger
• Knowledge of smart contract development and decentralized application (DApp) architecture
• Experience with digital asset custody, tokenization, or crypto payment systems
• Understanding of DeFi protocols, stablecoins, and Layer-2 scaling solutions
• Familiarity with regulatory frameworks for digital assets including MiCA, AML/KYC, and securities regulations
• Experience integrating blockchain with core banking, payments, or treasury management systems
• Programming proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, Java, or Solidity
• Blockchain certifications such as Certified Blockchain Architect or Hyperledger
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration
• Interest in advancing into Principal Architect or technical leadership roles
