Roche seeks a student intern for a 9-12 month placement in Basel to develop LC-MS/MS methods for peptide characterization within the HST team.
This internship is situated within the Synthetic Molecule Analytical Development department (PTDC-A) under Global Technical Development (PTD). The candidate will join the specialized Hyphenated & Special Technologies (HST) team, which consists of more than 20 mass spectrometry experts, to support analytical development activities for synthetic molecules.
Responsibilities
- Create and optimize modern LC-MS/MS methods to measure the enantiomeric purity (D/L ratio) of amino acids found in synthetic peptides.
- Perform sample preparation tasks, including peptide hydrolysis, and conduct precise LC-MS/MS measurements.
- Manage, process, and interpret complex data generated by analytical mass spectrometry instruments.
Requirements
- Be a recent Master’s graduate or a student close to completing Master’s level studies.
- Hold an academic background in analytical chemistry or a related scientific discipline such as Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, or Food Chemistry.
- Demonstrate strong theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience with analytical instruments, chromatographic separation methods, and sample preparation protocols.
- Possess business-level proficiency in English.
- Show strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of the German language.
- Previous practical experience using LC-MS analytics.
- A solid understanding of peptide and amino acid structures, along with familiarity with derivatization techniques or acid hydrolysis.
