Novartis seeks a Supply Chain Manager for Global Clinical Supplies in Basel. The role focuses on demand and supply planning for clinical materials, ensuring regulatory compliance and operational excellence.
This position provides end-to-end operational responsibility for assigned clinical supply activities. The manager acts as a central figure in the Clinical Supply & Operations Planning process, offering visibility into supply constraints and leading project-specific initiatives within the global network.
Responsibilities
- Aligns supply strategies across Global Clinical Supplies and contributes to broader portfolio strategies for chemical, pharmaceutical, and biologics areas.
- Participates in global planning meetings to ensure demand and supply are synchronized with clinical supply planning teams.
- Ensures clinical demand is met by addressing supply and regulatory requirements during cross-functional meetings.
- Coordinates manufacturing schedules from drug substance to finished goods and determines cost-effective ordering levels.
- Leads long-term demand and capacity planning efforts in collaboration with various planning and logistics teams.
- Monitors and improves functional performance indicators with a focus on supply planning quality.
- Manages ordering processes and master data within the SAP system.
- Implements rapid response tools for scenario building, network design, and supply-demand planning.
- Designs supply chain structures in coordination with funds flow, customs, trade compliance, and technical regulatory departments.
- Develops change control strategies for clinical supplies from a global perspective.
- Assesses the impact of changes on clinical supplies and supports regulatory submission strategies.
- Integrates comparator supply strategies into procurement, blinding, and release planning activities.
Requirements
- University degree in science, engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
- Fluent proficiency in English.
- More than five years of experience in the chemical or pharmaceutical industry, or over three years in a specialized field.
- Strong expertise in relevant supply chain or pharmaceutical domains.
- Solid understanding of the drug development lifecycle.
- Basic project management capabilities along with strong organizational and planning skills.
- Familiarity with regulations such as GMP and HSE, as well as internal company standards.
- Proven ability to solve problems and generate innovative ideas.
- Effective presentation skills.
- Intermediate leadership capabilities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal abilities, with experience working in interdisciplinary teams.
