Buhlergroup seeks a Team Manager for R&D Software in Uzwil, CH, to lead automation engineers and drive PLC and machine control project delivery.

This position merges technical leadership with hands-on automation expertise. The manager is responsible for guiding a team of engineers and developers while ensuring that machine control projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to high quality standards. The role also involves defining future benchmarks for control solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor, guide, and foster the professional growth of automation engineers and developers within the R&D department.
  • Oversee the execution of PLC and automation tasks for machine development, ensuring adherence to quality, timeline, and budget targets.
  • Promote the creation, standardization, and reuse of reliable PLC, HMI, and safety-focused machine control systems.
  • Allocate resources effectively, prioritize tasks, and maintain clear visibility into project status, potential risks, and bottlenecks.
  • Partner with cross-functional groups including Product Management, Supply Chain, Customer Service, and global platform teams to enhance automation quality and machine performance.

Requirements

  • A university degree in automation, electrical engineering, software engineering, IT, or a similar technical discipline.
  • Proven experience in automation, PLC software development, machine control, or a related engineering field.
  • Background in leading or coordinating technical teams during development or engineering initiatives.
  • Deep understanding of PLC programming, HMI integration, machine control principles, and preferably safety-related automation.
  • A structured, solution-focused approach combined with strong communication abilities in both German and English, plus the capacity to motivate and develop staff.

Nice to have

  • Experience with safety-related automation systems.
