OpenAI seeks a Senior Technical Deployment Lead in Zurich to bridge customer delivery and platform development, turning research into production systems without direct management duties.
This position sits at the intersection of customer success and core platform engineering. The individual will partner directly with clients to transform research advancements into robust production environments. Rather than managing people, the role focuses on end-to-end ownership of technical delivery, with success defined by measurable impact, successful deployments, and widespread adoption of AI solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and manage technical delivery plans for several interconnected workstreams.
- Convert business goals into detailed roadmaps featuring clear milestones, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
- Oversee daily engineering execution and monitor progress across multiple teams.
- Work closely with client teams to implement production deployments and encourage usage.
- Collaborate with Product and Research teams to align on deployment objectives.
- Document solution patterns and evaluation methods to enhance product quality and model performance.
- Define value cases and return on investment metrics, including establishing impact hypotheses and key performance indicators.
- Communicate field insights to Product and Research teams to influence roadmap priorities.
Requirements
- Seven or more years of experience in customer-facing technical delivery leadership.
- Proven history of managing large, complex, and high-stakes customer projects.
- Capacity to thrive in environments with significant ambiguity.
- Skill in shifting between high-level system architecture and granular execution details.
- Strong technical proficiency and keen judgment in task sequencing.
- Background in shipping AI or large language model systems.
- Deep expertise in at least one major industry sector, such as healthcare, energy, financial services, semiconductors, or IT.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite with customers to speed up delivery.
