Thèse CIFRE - Additive H/F

Constellium Valais · schweiz

A three-year CIFRE PhD position at Constellium Valais focusing on the creep resistance of new aluminum alloys for additive manufacturing, split between SIMaP and Constellium C-TEC.

This doctoral research role investigates the high-temperature mechanical behavior of novel aluminum alloys produced via Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). The candidate will characterize creep performance and analyze deformation and damage mechanisms, spending the majority of their time at the SIMaP laboratory with a smaller portion dedicated to Constellium C-TEC.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the as-printed microstructure to identify intermetallic phases and supersaturated solid solutions.
  • Evaluate aging responses through atom probe tomography and transmission electron microscopy.
  • Perform high-temperature tensile and various creep tests to determine mechanical properties under heat.
  • Inspect deformed samples using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray computed microtomography to understand failure mechanisms.

Requirements

  • Hold a Master’s or Engineering degree in materials science.
  • Demonstrate strong capability and interest in experimental laboratory work.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with additive manufacturing techniques.
