UNPAID VOLUNTEER - Head of Communications

The Blockchain & Climate Institute seeks a senior volunteer to lead its global communications strategy, shaping public narrative and media engagement for climate action.

As the senior-most communications leader at the Blockchain & Climate Institute, this volunteer role is responsible for defining the organization’s public voice and strategic messaging. The position ensures all outreach aligns with the institute’s mission to advance blockchain technologies for global climate action, while overseeing planning, media relations, and digital storytelling across international platforms.

Responsibilities

• Create and implement a worldwide communications plan that supports the organization’s core objectives.
• Provide strategic advice to the Director-General and executive team on positioning and message development.
• Review and approve all external communications, ensuring consistent tone and accurate media framing.
• Increase the institute’s visibility and influence within policy discussions and the climate technology sector.
• Direct communications leads across public relations, media, editorial, social media, and design teams.
• Manage the institute’s news service and maintain the official editorial schedule.
• Oversee the creation of high-level publications, policy briefs, and strategic content.
• Maintain clarity and uniformity across all institutional documents and materials.
• Coordinate media interactions, event communications, and coverage for major events like COP.
• Position the organization as a trusted voice in international climate innovation dialogues.
• Mentor and guide PR officers, writers, designers, and platform coordinators.
• Define workflows, approval procedures, and content quality standards.

Requirements

• Demonstrated track record of managing communications teams.
• Deep understanding of narrative development across traditional and digital channels.
• Established media connections and experience handling public statements and opinion pieces.
• Strong capabilities in writing, editing, and strategic content planning.
• Proven ability to coordinate remote teams and work effectively across different time zones.
