UNPAID VOLUNTEER - IT Technicians / IT Support Officers

The Blockchain Climate Institute seeks a mid-level IT Support Officer for a remote, part-time volunteer role. The position involves providing technical support, troubleshooting, and maintaining IT systems for volunteers.

This volunteer position sits within the Human Capital & Administration Division, specifically the IT Support Branch. The Blockchain Climate Institute is an international, volunteer-led think tank that advocates for using blockchain technology to combat climate change. The role requires a commitment of at least one day per week on average and is performed entirely from home.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality technical assistance to volunteers across the institute.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and resolve incidents efficiently.
• Meet established performance targets and service level commitments.
• Continuously look for ways to enhance the IT support experience for volunteers.
• Conduct routine maintenance and checks on user accounts, taking necessary actions as needed.
• Create and maintain accurate documentation, including the team's support knowledge base.
• Develop straightforward solutions using standard features in Office 365 or G-Suite.
• Stay informed about updates and new features in Microsoft and G-Suite ecosystems to advise volunteers effectively.
• Engage in ongoing learning to improve personal and team capabilities.
• Identify support requests that evolve into projects, capture technical needs, and draft project specifications.
• Manage new user account creation, profile setup, and password-related issues.

Requirements

• Proven proficiency in administering Office 365 and G-Suite environments.
• Skills in website maintenance and fundamental design tasks.
• Strong problem-solving and logical thinking abilities.
• Capacity to evaluate the IT proficiency of individual volunteers.
• Demonstrated success in building professional relationships and communicating effectively with internal stakeholders.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workloads efficiently.
• Excellent listening and questioning techniques to diagnose issues and explain solutions clearly.
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within a team.
• Commitment to following up with volunteers until issues are fully resolved.
• Advanced computer literacy and analytical skills.
• Experience in training others on troubleshooting and problem diagnosis.
• Familiarity with both PC and Mac hardware and software ecosystems.
• Background in network repairs and analysis.
• Solid understanding of software and operating system mechanics.
• Mastery of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Current knowledge of IT trends and technologies.
• A relevant degree in fields such as business information technology, computer science, software engineering, or related disciplines.
• Prior experience in a comparable IT support role.
• Track record of fostering constructive stakeholder relationships.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively to advance projects with initiative.

• City & Guilds (E-Quals) IT Practitioners Certificate and Advanced Diploma.
