IT Support Technician

EPFL seeks an IT Support Technician to provide onsite and remote assistance at its Lausanne campus. The role involves troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking issues while supporting AV tools and maintaining documentation.

This position supports the IT team at EPFL's Lausanne campus, with occasional duties at the Neuchâtel site. The role focuses on resolving technical issues for users across the university while contributing to infrastructure upgrades and security maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to users through face-to-face interactions, emails, phone calls, and ticketing systems, addressing both simple and advanced problems.
  • Guide clients in selecting and deploying IT hardware across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments, utilizing fleet management solutions to diagnose and fix device issues.
  • Offer technical support for videoconferencing platforms, meeting rooms, and related events.
  • Configure and resolve technical problems for IT equipment and applications within dedicated computer labs.
  • Handle software installation, application troubleshooting, and update management for end-user devices.
  • Oversee network access permissions and address connectivity disruptions.
  • Update and maintain both internal and external IT documentation as part of team duties.
  • Take part in infrastructure upgrades, system migrations, and university-wide software deployments.
  • Support IT security efforts by managing the lifecycle of hardware and software assets.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in IT support roles with a strong emphasis on customer service.
  • Familiarity with ticketing platforms such as ServiceNow.
  • Hands-on experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting at least two operating systems from Linux, macOS, or Windows.
  • Background in managing IT hardware including laptops, workstations, and PC components.
  • Experience with audio-visual and videoconferencing tools like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Understanding of Active Directory, LDAP, and Group Policy Objects (GPO).
  • Solid grasp of networking basics including IP addressing, firewalls, port configurations, and VPNs.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a CFC qualification, plus 3–5 years of IT work experience.
  • Fluent proficiency in both French and English, written and spoken.

Nice to have

  • Experience with scripting languages such as bash, batch, PowerShell, or programming tools like Python and Git.
  • Knowledge of ITIL frameworks or similar best practices for incident and change management.
