This position focuses on translating complex seismological concepts into accessible visual formats. The role involves creating illustrations and animations that explain earthquake early warning systems, working alongside an interdisciplinary group of experts to ensure clarity for various audiences.
Responsibilities
- Design and produce visual content that explains the mechanics, capabilities, and constraints of earthquake early warning systems.
- Create visual strategies and design solutions tailored to specific audiences and communication platforms.
- Provide graphic support for ongoing projects and general visual needs of the Swiss Seismological Service.
- Partner with a small team comprising communication experts, IT specialists, and researchers.
- Apply design principles to enhance the user experience of communication materials.
Requirements
- Formal training in illustration, scientific visualization, animation, communication design, or a closely related discipline.
- A portfolio demonstrating prior experience in producing scientific illustrations and animations.
- The capacity to rapidly understand intricate scientific subjects, with a particular interest in natural hazards or risk communication.
- Strong initiative, independent work habits, and quick comprehension skills.
- Experience with iterative design workflows and engaging with various stakeholders.
- A collaborative mindset suitable for interdisciplinary teams, with the ability to tailor communication to the target audience.
- Fluency in both German and English, at a very good level for speaking and writing.
- Possession of a valid Swiss work permit or fulfillment of all necessary legal requirements.
