Backend Software Engineer - Applications

Deepjudge, a Swiss AI and ICT scale-up, seeks a Mid-level Backend Software Engineer for its applications team in Zurich. The role involves building and maintaining scalable backend services using Python, Rust, Go, and C++, with a focus on microservices in cloud and on-premises environments.

This position is for a Backend Software Engineer within the applications team, tasked with developing the core systems that power the web application. The engineer will contribute to early-stage design discussions, take technical ownership of complex backend changes, and ensure efficient resource management across diverse deployment environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services using modern tools and frameworks
• Participate in architectural decisions for new and existing systems
• Review code to uphold high standards of quality and maintainability
• Enhance team efficiency by improving tooling, refining workflows, and sharing knowledge

Requirements

• Hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or have equivalent hands-on experience
• Possess 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in a scale-up or fast-growing environment
• Be highly skilled in one or more backend languages including Python, Rust, Go, or C++
• Be comfortable writing highly concurrent or asynchronous code
• Have solid experience with databases, including SQL and/or NoSQL types
• Be familiar with modern web architectures and cloud platforms
• Have experience managing projects from planning through implementation to ongoing maintenance and observability

Nice to have

• Experience integrating with LLM providers and developing products that leverage LLMs to deliver tangible user value
• Familiarity with streaming or message queue systems such as Redis Streams, Kafka, or RabbitMQ
• Experience with Kubernetes, including deploying services and troubleshooting production workloads
