Binding Kinetics Scientist (SPR & BLI)

Adaptyv · Lausanne

Adaptyv seeks a Binding Kinetics Scientist in Lausanne to analyze SPR/BLI data, ensure quality, and communicate results to clients in a hybrid, AI-driven biotech environment.

This position focuses on the rigorous evaluation of high-throughput binding data generated by automated laboratory instruments. The scientist acts as the quality gatekeeper, determining data validity and communicating scientific findings to external partners. It is designed for a technical expert who also thrives on interpersonal interaction and clear explanation of complex results.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate binding data from SPR and BLI experiments to decide whether to deliver, flag, or repeat results.
  • Distinguish between genuine binding signals and experimental artifacts by analyzing binding curves.
  • Assess data from additional assays, including thermostability, expression levels, developability, and enzyme activity.
  • Interact with customers to share findings, address follow-up inquiries, and clarify data confidence levels.
  • Adjust experimental designs when re-runs are necessary to improve outcomes.
  • Use scripting to analyze batch-level data, identifying systematic patterns or drifts.
  • Provide technical feedback to the software team regarding automation successes or errors.
  • Collaborate closely with production, quality control, and customer success departments.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in biochemistry, biophysics, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least three years of practical experience in binding kinetics.
  • Extensive hands-on proficiency with SPR and BLI platforms such as Biacore, Carterra, Octet, or Gator.
  • Expertise in selecting appropriate fitting models, including 1:1, bivalent, steady-state, mass transport, and avidity.
  • Strong data analysis capabilities using Python or R.
  • Willingness to incorporate AI tools into analysis and scripting workflows.
  • Self-motivated ability to work independently.
  • Skill in explaining complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences in simple terms.
  • Commitment to honesty regarding data uncertainty and ambiguity.

Nice to have

  • Experience with other biophysical or functional assays, such as DSF, HPLC, or plate-based activity assays.

What the company offers

  • Join a rapidly expanding biotech firm trusted by leading biopharmaceutical companies and AI research labs.
  • Work with automated lab infrastructure and AI-driven wet lab experimentation tools.
  • Gain exposure to a diverse array of targets, design methodologies, and AI-designed proteins.
  • Enjoy a flexible work model, with onsite presence preferred but remote or hybrid options available for suitable candidates.

About the company

Adaptyv is developing infrastructure for agentic science, where AI models design proteins and iteratively refine results based on experimental data. The company prioritizes startup speed and the timely delivery of results to paying customers. Transparency is a core value, with a strong emphasis on flagging ambiguous results rather than shipping confident but incorrect data.
