The Paul Scherrer Institut seeks a Designer for Superconducting Magnet Development in Villigen. This mid-level role focuses on mechanical design and prototype construction for high-temperature superconducting magnets.

This position supports the Future Circular Collider Study by advancing research and development in superconducting magnet technology. The successful candidate will join a young research group dedicated to creating High-Temperature Superconducting magnets, contributing to both design and physical assembly.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical CAD design and assist in building prototypes for high-temperature superconducting magnets.
  • Lead and participate in the manufacturing and assembly processes for designed prototypes.
  • Develop processes and provide hands-on support for winding superconducting coils.
  • Execute conventional machining tasks, including drilling, turning, and milling, for simple components.
  • Manage the procurement of necessary parts and raw materials.

Requirements

  • Completion of vocational training as a designer or equivalent proven education and experience.
  • Strong practical abilities with a focus on prototype development and construction.
  • Demonstrated experience in procuring parts.
  • Proficient command of the English language.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of the German language.
  • Experience with FFF 3D printing technology.
