EPFL seeks a Director of Operations for the Central Electron Microscopy Facility (CIME) in Lausanne to lead the platform, manage staff, and drive strategic development in advanced microscopy.
The successful candidate will serve as the head of the Central Electron Microscopy Facility (CIME) at EPFL. This role involves leading a multidisciplinary team that provides electron microscopy services, training, and collaborative research support. The position requires creating and implementing a strategic vision for the platform's development in coordination with university leadership and the user community.
Responsibilities
- Manage the CIME team, including scientific, technical, and administrative personnel.
- Oversee the maintenance, upgrades, and optimal operation of electron microscopy infrastructure.
- Develop and execute the strategic vision for the platform in collaboration with the AVP-Platforms and users.
- Ensure efficient user support, training, and education at all levels.
- Foster collaborations across EPFL schools and with external partners.
- Manage the operational budget, resource allocation, and long-term investment planning.
Requirements
- PhD or equivalent experience in materials science, physics, chemistry, or related fields.
- Proven expertise in advanced electron microscopy techniques.
- Active engagement in the electron microscopy community.
- Strong commitment to education and training.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Nice to have
- Working knowledge of French.
- Demonstrated capabilities of leading an infrastructure or facility.
