Abbott seeks a Global Medical Director for Cardiometabolic in Basel to lead global medical strategy, oversee clinical research, and ensure regulatory compliance within the Established Pharmaceuticals Division.
This position serves as a central figure in defining the global medical direction for Abbott’s Cardiometabolic therapeutic area. As a key member of the Medical Affairs Leadership Team, the incumbent will drive strategic initiatives, govern research projects, and ensure that medical activities align with global standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Define and execute the global medical strategy for the Cardiometabolic portfolio and associated products.
- Oversee Global Medical Affairs research initiatives, including investigator-sponsored studies, post-marketing surveillance, observational research, Phase IV trials, and real-world evidence projects.
- Chair the Scientific Review Committee responsible for evaluating clinical research activities led by Global Medical Affairs.
- Participate in the Product Safety Team to monitor medical safety, contribute to Periodic Safety Update Reports, clinical overviews, and risk management plans.
- Mentor and develop direct reports, cultivating a team culture that is collaborative, inclusive, and focused on high performance.
- Create comprehensive medical plans for the therapeutic area, incorporating research goals, publication strategies, real-world evidence, and study designs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to develop Target Product Profiles.
- Identify unmet medical needs and long-term opportunities for innovation, differentiation, and value creation.
- Ensure all medical and promotional activities adhere to global guidelines and regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in Life Sciences (M.D., PharmD, PhD, or M.Sc.) accompanied by relevant professional experience.
- Proven background in Medical Affairs and/or clinical research within pharmaceutical, academic, or similar environments.
- Fluent proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Strong grasp of clinical trial methodology, safety oversight processes, and regulatory requirements.
Nice to have
- Proficiency in additional languages.
- Prior experience in country or regional medical roles.
- Demonstrated success in engaging Key Opinion Leaders and scientific societies.
