Miraex seeks an intern in Ecublens to design and measure superconducting electro-optic devices within its R&D team, focusing on integrated photonic solutions.
This internship places the candidate within a small, horizontal research and development group where all team members contribute equally. The primary objective is to advance the creation of new integrated photonic devices by designing and measuring superconducting electro-optic components.
Responsibilities
- Create designs for electrical circuits and superconducting structures on chips and printed circuit boards.
- Evaluate device performance using mathematical calculations and simulation tools.
- Fabricate or assemble the necessary parts to ensure devices and experimental setups operate correctly.
- Lead complex prototyping efforts for cryogenic experiments involving superconducting and electro-optic circuits.
Requirements
- Prior experience working in a laboratory setting.
- Fundamental understanding of RF and microwave components, electrical circuitry, and characterization instruments.
- Meticulous attention to detail and rigor when designing and executing experiments.
- Strong desire and self-motivation to acquire new technical skills.
- Ability to use computational thinking and automate tasks using Python or similar scientific programming languages.
- Proficiency in written and oral communication in English for documentation and collaboration.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with operating cryogenic vacuum systems.
- Background in the theoretical study, design, or measurement of superconducting circuits or materials.
- Experience using simulation software for high-frequency electrical or optical structures.
- Knowledge of quantum optics theory or electromagnetic simulation integrated with experimental work.
- Hands-on experience with fiber optic, integrated photonic, electro-optic, or general optical components and systems.
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving.
