CSEM seeks an intern in Neuchâtel to support R&D on flame-retardant materials for photovoltaic modules, focusing on safety, characterization, and performance evaluation.
The company is looking for a candidate to join the Solar Modules team at its Neuchâtel facility. The position involves participating in advanced research and development activities aimed at creating next-generation flame-retardant materials. The primary goal is to improve the fire safety and overall performance of photovoltaic installations through innovative material science.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and characterize flame-retardant formulations intended for use in photovoltaic modules.
- Study how material composition and processing methods influence fire behavior.
- Assess how flame-retardant additives affect the durability, reliability, and overall performance of PV modules.
- Conduct experimental tests, process data, and interpret findings to aid in the industrialization of fire-safe PV materials.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a BSc or MSc in Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related discipline.
- Solid understanding of polymer materials, additives, and formulation principles.
- Familiarity with material characterization techniques and standard experimental methods.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory work, experimental design, and data analysis.
- Ability to interpret scientific data and derive technical conclusions.
- Proficient written and spoken English skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with thermal, mechanical, or chemical characterization methods such as DSC, TGA, DMA, FTIR, or microscopy.
- Basic knowledge of fire behavior, flame-retardant materials, or fire testing standards.
- Familiarity with scientific programming and data analysis tools like Python, MATLAB, or Origin.
