GE Vernova seeks a motivated student for a full-time internship in Baden, CH, bridging process engineering and data analytics within advanced power systems.
This internship is part of the STEPS program, designed to provide hands-on experience in engineering disciplines. The role focuses on the intersection of mechanical engineering, data systems, and power plant performance, allowing interns to collaborate with industry experts and gain insights into the future of energy.
Responsibilities
- Analyze operational data to spot trends, performance bottlenecks, and optimization opportunities in power plant systems.
- Support technical analysis of balance-of-plant systems by applying thermodynamics and fluid mechanics to design challenges.
- Study combined cycle power plant operations, including the interaction between gas turbines, heat recovery steam generators, steam turbines, and balance of plant equipment.
- Create scripts and automated workflows using Python to streamline data processing, model performance, and generate visualizations.
- Investigate how AI tools can support engineering efforts.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to document findings and present data-driven recommendations that influence the design and efficiency of next-generation infrastructure.
- Explore the application of AI and machine learning techniques to enhance plant efficiency, flexibility, and availability.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s program or completing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or an Energy-related field.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics with a desire to apply this knowledge to combined cycle power plant processes.
- Proficient in programming, particularly Python, with an interest in using data-driven methods for physical engineering systems.
- Experience applying AI or machine learning methods to physical engineering or time-series data.
- Fluent in English, capable of explaining technical concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
