responsAbility board seeks an Investment Associate for its Financial Inclusion Debt team in Cape Town, focusing on debt investments in Sub-Saharan Africa.
This position supports the Financial Inclusion Debt team by managing investment fund activities across Sub-Saharan Africa. The role centers on providing senior and subordinated debt to microfinance institutions and other financial entities, requiring a professional based in Cape Town to oversee the full investment lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the sourcing, due diligence, structuring, and monitoring of financial sector debt investments throughout the region.
- Perform credit risk assessments and market risk analysis for counterparties, including scoring and due diligence processes.
- Collaborate with internal risk management, investment committees, transaction teams, and external partners to finalize and structure deals.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, seminars, and relevant professional events.
- Manage the complete investment cycle from initial identification through to ongoing portfolio management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in economics, business administration, finance, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum of three to four years of professional experience in the financial sector, preferably within an international context.
- Solid understanding of microfinance, small and medium enterprise (SME) lending, and leasing operations.
- Fluent business-level proficiency in English.
- Demonstrated ability in analytical thinking, technical writing, and public presentations.
- Strong commercial acumen and negotiation capabilities.
- Adaptability and independence, with the capacity to thrive in a multicultural, international setting.
